Formatting of NE articles

Next Era’s (NE) features articles are 500 – 800 words long. They analyse a new development in society, grounding it through anecdotes and examples, giving it context, and exploring the emergent future, to give a NE prognosis of where this development is headed, and how it can be leveraged for good. Our articles are not academic essays, so make sure to use real-life examples to explain developments and simple vocabulary where possible.

Next Era also does not predict future outcomes, but rather discusses possible (and desirable) future pathways, so use your imagination, grounded in a factual base, when exploring what emergent futures your development may hold.

Article writing tips

  • Use simple words when possible to be inclusive to a wide audience. 
  • Human anecdotes and exciting examples make articles more engaging, and help convey your broader point more effectively. 
  • The audience is generalist, so do not assume prior knowledge on your topic.
  • When using statistics or facts, do not cite sources, but simply provide a hyperlink where necessary.
  • Try to stick to one point per sentence.
  • Make sure the learnings you want the reader to get from your article are explicitly written.
  • You can use AI tools like Gemini to shorten sentences and proofread for clarity.

Article writing timeline

When your article idea has been approved, you will be allocated an article draft deadline and an expected publication date. Drafts are always due two weeks before the publication date.


After the feedback has been returned, a reworked version is expected at least 7 days before the publication date, to allow for style edits and marketing content to be created.
